Remembering Your Worth

20/8/2024

This week I have been mindfully contemplating the concept of worth.
In a world that often measures success and personal worth based on material wealth or external accomplishments, it’s easy to forget our intrinsic value. However, it is important to remember that our worth goes far beyond our accomplishments or material possessions. And we must work hard to remember that we all matter and we all have great worth, and not because of what we do or what we have, but simply because we exist.
Your presence in this world is a gift, and your unique contributions enrich the lives of those around you in ways you may not realize. Take a moment to consider the impact you have on others — the smile you give, the comfort you provide, and the kindness you share. Your presence has certainly left an indelible mark in the hearts of those who know you, and there are many people who will be very happy to hear your news, laugh along with you, and enjoy your warmth.
It’s easy to underestimate our self-worth, especially in a society that often fosters self-doubt and self-comparison. However, it is important to recognize our inherent goodness and accept our worthiness without reservation. You are inherently entitled to love, happiness, and fulfilment, simply for being human.
As the famous philosopher, Marcus Aurelius once said, “Do you know how many perfect moments unfold before your eyes? Do you know how many you have had? Do you know how many peaceful quiet nights you have experienced, how many hearts have loved you, how many people want to see your name pop up on their phones right now? Do you know how important you are? Do you know how good you are?”
These words remind us of the importance of our existence and the beauty that surrounds us every day. And never forget that your worth has not diminished, reduced or changed since the day that you arrived here on Earth and took your very first breath as a newborn baby.  And right here, right now, you are enough, just as you are, and the world is so much brighter because you are in it. You're priceless and don't you ever forget your worth and exceptional value.

LEO
Release Date: 2023
Rating: G
Running Time: 102 mins

An animated musical comedy directed by Robert Marianetti, Robert Smigel and David Wachtenheim and produced by Happy Madison Productions. This unexpectedly heart-warming and enjoyable children's film speaks volumes about a child's need for a reliable soundboard in their life and the power of a class pet.
Leo the lizard has been stuck in the same school and the same reptile enclosure with Squirtle the turtle for a very long time. So long that he has only just realised that his time may be up very soon. Determined to experience a full life, Leo sets out to explore the world at large and invertedly becomes a class guidance counsellor when he discovers that the children in the class can hear him when he speaks.
Leo is a really funny movie, I laughed out loud several times and since I work in a school myself, I thought that material was actually relatable and quite accurate. Adam Sandler and Bill Burr do a terrific job of voicing Leo and Squirtle and the entire movie delivers with a sweet charm that I highly recommend. Leo may well be the hidden gem of kids movies for 2023.
FINAL SAY: Enjoy not knowing everything. Enjoy being a kid.
