A few years ago I called together a group of like minded individuals to get a snap shot of people's thoughts on what they believed was a worthy cinematic experience. Which movies stuck with them? Which movies mattered to them? And which movies did they go back to time and time again? This endeavour led me to a few conclusions. The first was that some people will watch any shit and think that it is quality viewing, so sad. The second is that genres blur and categorizing movies is a major pain in the arse that I am still struggling with. And lastly, I learnt that you need to be discerning and open minded about the movies that you watch because they truly do shape your thoughts and opinions, just like all forms of media. Movies can sway you, they can liberate you or they can damage you. The movies that a person watches really tells you a lot about who they are, it reveals what they find endearing, harrowing, funny and disgusting. So why wouldn't you give a crap about what you watch? And why wouldn't you choose to watch quality movies that can transport you to other places, allow you to walk a mile in someone else's shoes or even educate you? Come on people! It's time to be discerning and watch something with substance. I have even done all of the hard work for you already by weeding out all the shitty movies in advance. So pop the corn and pull down the shades, and most importantly, happy viewing.
