This BLOG is going to have all my movie endeavours recorded....the good, the bad and the ugly. And probably some other rants from time to time. It may well serve as a cathartic tool as well, after all I am still a working wife and mother and that shit gets hard and worst still stands in my way of more movie viewing! And so now without further ado....
Last night it was almost 9.45pm, I'm getting a little doughy eyed and after trawling the channels for something remotely watch worthy I decided to throw on The Wolf of Wall Street. Do I shirk a few hours sleep to delve into Martin Scorsese's newest offering or do I do the sensible thing on a Thursday night and just go to bed? I watched the film of course!
Release Date: 2014
Rated: R 18+
Running time: 179 min
This movie came to me at the end of it's huge hype, it was on DVD by the time I engaged it, so I had already heard about the orgies, the cocaine snorting antics and the scandalized debauchery through default. Maybe I have become somewhat desensitized over the years, but I really didn't find this movie that shocking. It's a Scorsese film, it's inevitably going to be about opportunistic scum bags making their way through life by ripping off the naive and less corrupt, that much goes without saying. Is it Hall of Fame awesome? No not that awesome, and for most probably a half hour too long. The length wasn't an issue for me, but in fairness it rarely is.
Leo does a great job portraying all of the lunacy and frenetic appetites of 'The Wolf' but in the end it was Jonah Hill's epic portrayal of his loyal and tragic cousin-humping sidekick that stole the show for me.
Extremely noteworthy performances from Joanna Lumley, Mathew McConaughey and upcoming Aussie actress Margot Robbie who just shines as the all too beautiful Naomi Lapaglia. Overall a worthy waste of almost 3 hours of my life.
FINAL SAY: Worth the time but not life changing
